Petri dish is a laboratory vessel used for microbial or cell culture, consisting of a flat disc-shaped bottom and a lid. The material of the culture dish is basically divided into two categories, mainly plastic and glass. Glass is usually used for plant materials, microbial culture, and animal cell wall culture, and may also be used. Plastic is made of polyethylene material, suitable for laboratory inoculation, marking, and bacterial isolation operations, and can also be used for the cultivation of plant materials

Classification of culture dishes

1. According to their different purposes, culture dishes can be divided into cell culture dishes and bacterial culture dishes.

2. According to the different manufacturing materials, they are divided into plastic culture dishes and glass culture dishes, but imported culture dishes and disposable culture dishes are both made of plastic materials.

3. According to different sizes, culture dishes with diameters of 35mm, 60mm, 90mm, and 150mm are usually divided.

4. According to the different partitions, it can be divided into 2-partition culture dishes, 3-partition culture dishes, etc.

5. There are basically two types of culture dish materials, mainly plastic and glass. Glass can be used for plant materials, microbial culture, and animal cell adhesion culture, and may also be used. Precautions for using petri dishes

1. Clean and disinfect before use. The cleanliness of the culture dish has a significant impact on the work and can affect the acidity and alkalinity of the culture medium. The presence of certain chemicals can inhibit bacterial growth.

2. Newly purchased culture dishes should be rinsed with hot water first, then soaked in a 1% or 2% hydrochloric acid solution for several hours to remove free alkaline substances, and rinsed twice with distilled water.

3. To cultivate bacteria, use high-pressure steam (usually 6.8 * 10 ^ 5 Pa high-pressure steam), sterilize at 120 ºC for 30 minutes, dry at room temperature, or use dry heat sterilization. Place the culture dish in an oven and maintain the temperature at around 120 ºC for 2 hours to kill the bacterial cells.

4. Only sterilized culture dishes can be used for inoculation and cultivation.
